Description:
A truly inspirational story by Cecilie Lundgreen. All my life I had been doing things for my family my friends and of course myself. I had never really paid much attention to others in need. In February 2001 I was asked by Reeve Nield and Laurette Maritz to come to Zimbabwe and take part in their charity project _Eyes for Zimbabwe_ their goal was to give sight to those suffering from blindness due to cataracts. I accepted and thought it would be a great African adventure and a good cause. In April 2001 I spent two weeks with nine other Ladies European Tour Professionals in beautiful Zimbabwe playing golf in a fundraising effort which raised money to purchase the MUCH needed medicines medical supplies and equipment. All of which was to help blind Zimbabweans whom I had never met. I loved it. I loved the country. I loved the people and I loved being there. My life has not been the same since. After that initial great experience in Zimbabwe I decided that I could certainly do something similar in Norway to raise money for the cause. So I contacted a friend of mine Tor Nygard and asked for his help. I invited friends of mine from the Ladies European Tour to donate their time to play in a Pro_amateur Norwegian golfers were given the unique opportunity to play golf with world class Lady Golf Professionals. The money raised was to purchase further medical supplies for Eyes for Zimbabwe. My first Eyes for Zimbabwe Norway was a great success with over US20 000 raised and loads of medical supplies donated by The Norwegian Army which was shipped free of charge to Zimbabwe _DHL International_ donated over US15 000 in shipping costs. We were able to give sight to 1000 blind Zimbabweans. I was so proud of our accomplishment and so grateful to everyone who assisted in making it a terrific success. I travelled to Zimbabwe to see the Norwegian supplies arrive and be distributed to eye camps throughout Zimbabwe. It was fantastic to know that through such simple means and a slight effort we were able to give sight to hundreds of blind Zimbabweans Babies Children and Adults.
